Police

During the COVID-19 State directed shelter in place order and restricted access to City Hall, the Police Department wants to continue offering essential services to our citizens while respecting the directions of leadership and the health and safety of all.

Until further notice, the following service accommodations will be set in place:

Police Services:  Because of COVID 19 exposure risks, how officers respond to calls will temporarily change.  Officers will respond to calls:

  • When the call is high priority or in progress.
  • When the suspects are still on scene.
  • When the call involves weapons or violence.
  • When it is a serious crime and evidence is present.

For routine calls, officers will attempt to handle as many calls as possible by phone or refer you to the online reporting form on the City’s Police Department web-page.  Officers will follow up on on-line reporting cases by phone as time permits.

Routine calls:  (720) 652-4222

Emergencies:  911

Records:  Law Enforcement reports and other records can be requested by e-mail or telephone at pr@fortluptonco.gov or (303) 857-4011.  The Request Form link is (insert link).  Records staff will make arrangements for request requirements.  Until the restrictions are lifted, the fees associated with requests will be waived. Access to records staff will be extremely limited.

Vehicle Impound Releases:  Vehicle releases can be handled by patrol officers during normal duty hours (8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday) by calling Dispatch at (720) 652-4222 and asking to speak with an officer.

Sex Offender Registrations:  The registration process will change during the restriction period.  Registrants should call Dispatch at (720) 652-4222 and ask to have an officer return the call.  The officer will make an appointment for completion of the required documents.  The date-specific requirements can be flexed to allow time to make the appointment.

Property Return (Safekeeping/Found/Evidence):  The release of property will be handled by appointment only.  To make an appointment, call the Evidence Custodian at (720) 466-6152.  This number will not be staffed regularly but the messages will be checked periodically.

VIN Inspections:  No VIN inspections will be done until the restrictions are lifted.
